Professional career
After studying economics and graduating he joined IBM Deutschland GmbH as a management trainee for 18 months, subsequently being hired as a systems engineer.
In 1974 he became a director at a port operator and logistics company based in Hamburg. The company was built into an international group operating within the Hamburg-Antwerp range as a market leader in its sector.
Significant parts of the group were sold in 1993. During this time he performed various honorary functions, such as being a director of the federation of companies associated with the port of Hamburg, where he was responsible for collective pay bargaining and conducting negotiations. He also chaired the supervisory board of Dakosy AG for 15 years.
Between 1994 and 1998 he performed three restructuring mandates, as a company director in each case.
His main objective in all these cases was to improve the chances of selling these near-insolvent companies by restructuring them.
Since 1999 he has been a self-employed interim manager and consultant to firms in various sectors, specialising in business start-ups, process optimisation and restructuring.
